Figure Drawing of a Boy

This is a figure drawing of a boy playing at the beach. Actually, this is my old drawing that I created a long time ago when I was still living in Malang city. The title of the drawing was Istana Pasir or Sand Palace.
Message to Preserve the Environment
This little drawing which I later gave colors to it using watercolor pencils brings a message to anybody who sees it. The message is about how important it is to keep our sea clean. Fishermen will be able to catch fish and children can play at the beach. Tropical coastal is a rich marine environment. Its coral reef is home to thousands of species of fish, mollusc and other marine creatures that are important to economic livelihood of human being. A lot of birds such as kingfishers, frigate bird and tern eat fish from the sea. Fisherman catch small fish as bait which they need to catch bigger fish in open sea.
There are a lot of things that we can do to preserve our marine life. We must stop throwing wastes into the sea, stop destructive fishing practices such as the use of chemical poisons and explosives. Regular beach clean-up activity is also important to "heal" our environment from polution.

Title: Sand Castle - Watercolor Pencil on Paper
by Charles Roring
Drawing Process
I made the drawing when I was still learning how to use watercolor. In order to prevent creating unnecessary blotches, I decided to use Faber Castell watercolor pencils. After that I carefully dipped small brush in the water and applied some strokes on the paper to dissolve the pigment and blend the colors.
I don't really remember how I created the color gradient of sea water from turquoise in the shallow water to dark blue in deep water. Perhaps I did not use watercolor pencils but directly used Marie's Watercolour.
The process was quite slow for me but later I could finish the artwork faster. Now, the drawing is on the wall of my house.
