Kabui is the name of a bay between Waigeo and Gam islands in Raja Ampat. I often organize tours to the bay for visitors who like sightseeing, snorkeling, bird and wildlife watching. The duration of the tour is usually 3 to 4 days. I and the tourists whom I guide stay in a simple guesthouse run by local villagers or in a comfortable beach resort.

The tour to the bay will be conducted by a speed boat or by a motorized wooden boat. We usually visit karst, and then on the way back to the guesthouse we stop at several small islands to enjoy snorkeling and birding. Because the waters inside Kabui bay are protected by islands, the sea is mostly calm except between July and September.

Birding
Easy birding trip can be conducted at the beach of the small islands using binoculars and spotting scope. Coastal birds such as White-bellied Sea Eagle, Lesser Frigatebird, Lesser-crested Tern, White-breasted Woodswallow, Striated Heron, Eastern Reef Egret, Wimbrel, Torresian Crow, Radjah Shelduck are the typical birds that we can see at the beach. There are also Spice Imperial Pigeon, Pied Imperial Pigeon, Pinon Imperial Pigeon, Eclectus Parrot, Yellow-faced Myna, Channel-billed Cuckoo, Papuan Blyth's Hornbill, Singing Starling, Claret-breasted Fruit Dove, Willie Wagtail, Sacred Kingfisher, Beach Kingfisher, Rufous-bellied Kookaburra, Hooded Butcherbird, and a lot more.

Snorkeling
There are several snorkeling sites that have got pristine coral reef in Kabui bay especially in southern coast of Waigeo island or in the coastal areas of Gam island that face the bay. I usually do snorkeling at Warduwer beach. Here I can see Christmas Tree Worm, Burrowing Clam, Tasselled Wobbegong, Sea Urchin, Sea Cucumber and hundreds of species of reef fish.
The fastest and easiest way to see the marine life in Kabui bay and in the nearby islands are by doing snorkeling and freediving. I usually bring underwater camera to take pictures of the fish, and other marine creatures.
